Bechstein Model 10

This Bechstein Model 10 upright, built in 1904, is a fine example of the craftsmanship that defined the Golden Age of piano making (1890–1930). Bechstein's Model 10 delivered the elegance and tonal refinement of the larger Bechstein models.

Standing at approximately 128 cm in height, this Model 10 features an oblique-strung scale with underdamper action. The oblique-strung design, characteristic of its era, produces a uniquely transparent tone — with a lyrical singing treble and a warm, intimate bass. Unlike later cross-strung uprights, this tonal quality is particularly prized today for its historic character and clarity.

The piano is housed in a traditional mahogany case, typical of early 20th-century Bechstein design, with elegant proportions that make it suitable for both period and modern interiors.

This instrument is currently available to be restored by Restore and More. Our workshop will carefully and sympathetically restore it, ensuring it is reliable for modern playing while retaining the authenticity and voice of its 1904 heritage.

Owning a Bechstein Model 10 oblique-strung upright means preserving not only a fine instrument, but also a tangible piece of history from one of the most celebrated eras of piano manufacture.

Bechstein Model III

bech9_edited.jpg

The Bechstein Model III is a superb example of Bechstein’s dedication to elegance and refinement. As a mid-sized upright at approximately 127 cm in height, the Model III offers excellent resonance and projection while retaining the delicacy and balance of tone that makes Bechstein instruments so revered.

This particular Model III is a cross-strung design with underdamper action, representing a significant development in piano construction at the time. The cross-strung scale allows for longer strings in a more compact case, producing a richer, more powerful bass and a balanced tonal spectrum across the keyboard. Combined with Bechstein’s finely weighted action, this results in an instrument capable of both power and subtlety.

The piano is housed in a classic early 20th-century case, reflecting the elegance and craftsmanship that Bechstein is celebrated for. Its proportions make it versatile for domestic settings while still offering the depth of sound usually associated with larger uprights.

This instrument is currently available for purchase after it has been sympathetically restored for reliable modern performance, while preserving its historic character and voice.

Owning a Bechstein Model III cross-strung upright means acquiring an instrument that combines the innovation of its time with the timeless musicality that defines Bechstein pianos.
